In our plantings, we use a mix of native plants depending on what is available. Utilizing a diverse mix of native trees and shrubs provides a tangled network of different root structures that are much better at holding soil in place than shallow-rooted turf grass. In fact, keeping an area only in turf grass next to a creek actually contributes to erosion
