Point/Non-Point - What's the Point?

HWA Receives National Recognition
HWA has been selected by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to serve as a model organization for other watershed groups. The HWA case study will be part of a document, published nationwide, that will provide local governments and citizen watershed coalitions with ideas they can use to further the work of their organizations. The publication can be found at www.epa.gov/nps/bldgcapaccasestdfinal.pdf.

In February 2003, Ron Moser and Gordon Small met with the EPA staff in Atlanta Georgia. They presented our Watershed Action Plan to the EPA watershed managers and engineers from the southeastern states. EPA was very impressed and asked permission to use our plan as a “model plan” to help others. A follow-up report of our accomplishments and prior recognition was submitted for the EPA case study.

Two EPA quotes: “The U.S. EPA's non-point source capacity building workgroup would like to recognize your group as an outstanding example of how to set up and operate an effective watershed management group. EPA would like to use your success as a watershed organization to assist others as they tackle environmental challenges in their watersheds.” “It is exciting to think that the work you have completed will assist other groups as they strive to achieve similar goals in watersheds across the United States.”

HWA is fortunate to have an outstanding board of directors, dedicated officers and staff, a loyal membership and many partners. Together we have accomplished a great deal in a short period of time. Continued community support will ensure a bright future for HWA.
